Caleb Miller post for week 4

The teachers in a school should be diverse, both in terms of gender and race. It is important for students, especially at a young age, to see someone who looks like them as a role model, and particularly as someone who is educated and intelligent. Also, it is helpful to have teachers who come from different backgrounds, who grew up with different financial situations at home. Therefore, students from all different types of families and neighborhoods have someone that understands at least some of what they may be going through at home, and can talk to this person about any issues. I think that along with providing the students with a role model, such diversity would eradicate blatant racism, as the teachers would have to be tolerant to work at the school since their colleagues would be so diverse.
The faculty, such as principal and guidance counselors, should be a diverse group of people as well. Since they make many of the important school-wide decisions, ever possible race, gender, religion, etc. should be represented because each student should have someone supporting them in decisions that could affect their education.
Finally, the people who design curriculums, like Common Core and state tests, should be diverse since the material they write is what determines how the children learn. A wide variety of cultures should be present in the curriculum, and the questions on state assessments should be able to be easily comprehended by students of all backgrounds.
