Blog Post 3: Affirmative Action creates reverse racism. Discuss.

I completely disagree with that statement that affirmative action created reverse racism. Affirmative action was a policy meant to give African Americans and minorities greater employment and higher education opportunities by establishing quotas. This in turn did not cause reverse racism, but exacerbated racism itself. Due to affirmative action, African Americans and minorities’ qualifications have been diminished; all of their success has been attributed to their race. For instance, if an African American man were to get accepted into Harvard a person may say he only got accepted because he was black. Affirmative action allow for society to think lowly of minorities and to carry false notions of minorities altogether. In regards to reverse racism, it has always existed and was not created by affirmative action. Ever since white people began discriminating against black people, the opposite is true. That is, reverse racism, or black people discriminating against white people. In conclusion, reverse racism was not created by  affirmative action, but affirmative action did help to promote regular racism and promote negative portrayals of minorities, especially African Americans.
